001 MARNI

Photography // Brook&Lyn
Art Direction // Brook&Lyn and STOP IT RIGHT NOW
Styling // STOP IT RIGHT NOW

For my inaugural shoot I knew from the get-go that I wanted to collaborate with my immensely talented friend and photographer, Brook&Lyn. She has a way of capturing light and lines in such a beautiful way. Ideal really, for the Marni pieces I styled for the shoot. The Fall 2013 collection seemed a contemporary spin on 60s glamour - structured pieces in luxe textures - almost like the wardrobe from a film. The looks were rounded out with a few more casual pieces from Pre Fall. I felt like a modern day Tippi Hedren and the quiet eeriness of the photos was just what I was hoping for.

All pieces available at Marni

BREVITY

Zara crepe tank // Mango leather sweatpants // Brook&Lyn necklace // Dries Van Noten boots // Loeffler Randall bag

The weather has been fickle in LA lately. All last week it was cold and overcast and then there would be a break in the clouds and intermittent sun. You have to stay on top of it though, or else you miss the warmth and the chance to go jacketless. I feel like the older I get the more bashful I am about showing skin. I'm turning into my mom? I guess I should enjoy tanks while I can.

WEEKEND WEAR

Zara coat // J Crew cashmere sweater // Ksubi jeans // STOP IT RIGHT NOW + Brook&Lyn scarf // Sigerson Morrison boots // Loeffler Randall bag

When you take out your camera to finally catch up on an outfit post and realize you left the battery at work. Thank goodness for camera phones (and Photoshop).

And looking at these photos now, I guess this is a pretty accurate depiction of California winter wear. We're lucky, I know.

NOW IN LA

There are times when I feel this pointlessness with blogging - the vanity, the misconception, the pressure to constantly one-up yourself - but there are other times when I'm abundantly grateful for it. It's given me incredible opportunities and best of all, connected me with pretty wonderful people. Some who I've crossed over into real life friendships with. Mimi, of Brook&Lyn, is one of them. When she asked me to take part in her Brook&Lyn: Now in LA series, I was honored and also nervous about what I could possibly make that would live up to her aesthetic standards. But here it is, our collaboration scarf. The perfectly balanced item that feels very me and yet also very Mimi. We hope you like it.

And please welcome Brook&Lyn to LA.

HONOR

Honor cardigan coat // CÉLINE shirt // custom leather shorts // CÉLINE shoes // Brook&Lyn necklace // Leoffler Randall bag

On my first day of NYFW I went to the Honor show and was lucky enough to wear a cardigan coat from their Fall 2012 collection. Wasn't there a tropical tornado you say? Wasn't it in the 90s you ask? Why yes, but I pose you this... when have I ever worn weather-appropriate attire? Sure some show-goers threw some confused looks my way but not as ardently as this passer by. I mean I'm out of focus, but clearly that's not the most important part of the photo. I'd like to think that 2% of those who made this face, were more jealous of my outerwear than concerned I might have a heat stroke. It is, afterall, a beautiful gorgeous wonderful dream of a cardigan. That I may have come very close to stealing. Damn morals!

YARD SALE

YOOHOO! HELLO!

Are you getting sick of these yet? This time with Mimi of Brook&Lyn and Su of I'm Revolting

I won't quit until my entire wardrobe fits on one rolling rack, so you're going to have to come out to help me get rid of some stuff. Again. I promise it's not all used chonies and cracked mugs. There are also some very nice holey socks and TV antennas to be had. (jk) But really some vintage, some obscure Scandinavian goodness, and possibly even some CÉLINE. I guess you're going to have to come find out? More info here.

FAREWELL 2011

After that last failed attempt at a yard sale, we gave up on purging for a while. But after some almanac studying and dodging of last weekend's rain, we won't let our closets get the better of us this time around.

There will be a few more local sellers and a bounty of cheap stuff, good stuff, designer stuff, regular stuff, basically just a bunch of stuff you might want.

Also, we'll be holding a sample sale of Brook&Lyn goodies inside Keystone Row. I know you've been sad that New York has all the good sample sales, so don't say I never did anything for you my west coast people.

Hearts and farts.
